Blegny Mine
Blegny Mine is the only place in Belgium where you can still experience the old mining sensation.
Covered with a typical coat and a safety helmet, visitors descend with an elevator into the Belgian industrial past. The exciting and at the same time dangerous reality comes back to life. You learn about the circumstances in which the miners used to work and the dangers crossing their path every day. The noise from the machines they used gives you a realistic view of real life in the mine.
Guided tours are available in French and Dutch, audio guides also in German and English. Tours need to be booked in advance. Wheelchair users can follow a slightly different underground tour.
Also worth a visit…
Discover how coal and its derivatives up until today leave their marks on the face of the earth in the mining museum.
A ride in the tourist train shows you the charm of the local orchards in the Lower-Meuse region and the old city centre of Dalhem.
An audio guide tells you the story about the spoil pits and explains how they now act as a natural habitat.
You can reach Blegny (17km from Liège) via the E40 (exit 36) or E25 (exit 2). Follow the brown “Blegny Mine” signs to get to the site.
