Houtopia
Park Houtopia is built around four basic themes: health, safety, environment and tolerance. These might be hard to understand for children, but this educational centre teaches a few key lessons around these important principles, in order for the children to learn while playing.
In January 1945, Houffalize lived a real nightmare. It was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of the Bulge (the Ardennes Offensive). A quarter of its population did not survive. Amongst them many children.
Instead of building a memorial, Houffalize focuses on the future and on the children. They are after all the adults of tomorrow. This historical centre holds the tragic past in remembrance.
Houtopia is a meeting place where not only children, but also adults can learn about the values mankind should always defend, in order for everyone to respect human rights in general and children’s rights in particular.
