Ecomusée de Treignes (Treignes Eco-museum)
“Traditional trades”
The Ecomusée is located in the renovated Treignes Castle-Farm in a remarkable architectural development in the village centre. The permanent exhibition presents the interactions between humans and the environment, focusing in particular on technology developed throughout our history to control nature and exploit its resources and materials. Hundreds of tools, machines and displays illustrate traditional trades and everyday objects from former times. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn all about the professions of tree feller, clog maker, cooper, cobbler, tanner, farrier, blacksmith, forester, charcoal maker, saddler, wheelwright, joiner, carpenter, etc.
“Natural riches: fauna and flora”
The exhibition organised by the Ecomusée du Viroin takes the visitor into the heart of the forest and reveals its amazing diversity… In addition to the familiar stags, roe deer, wild boars, foxes and squirrels, visitors will also discover other local residents such as the badger, marten and weasel, the wildcat and vole, as well as many birds and insects. The exhibition is based around naturalised animals, displays and photos. A collection of old traps, happily banned today, testify to the damage these caused in the past to the fragile equilibrium of the forest.
