Milling Museum
For the educational part of your holidays in the Ardennes, be sure to visit a museum small in size but very large in interest. In just 25 minutes, learn about the historical development of mills and discover how millers once lived.
Milling flour is no easy task. It takes more than a puff of wind or a lively stream to turn the millstones. The miller must create a perfect balance between the mill race input, the speed of the gears, the distribution of forces in movement and the flow of grains to be milled.
Commentaries in four languages will help you appreciate the complexity of labour in the mill and the ingenuity of the inventor of this strange and noisy machine.
The mill remains on its original site. Built in 1645, M. Jacqmard senior operated the mill until 1960. 12 information posts describe in turn the usage of various mill elements and the organisation of work. You will be independent during your visit. You can select commentaries from the audio guide as you explore the site, in numerical order or not.
