National Gliding Centre
You have undoubtedly noticed some birds can keep on gliding through the air without having to move their wings. These birds are the ones mankind modelled their aircrafts after when gliders were invented back in the 19th century.
In order to launch a glider it must be attached to a powered aircraft by a cable. As soon as both aircrafts reach the desired height, they are disconnected so that the glider can carry on by itself. The glider pilot will use naturally occurring currents of rising air to maintain or even increase height. Favourable weather conditions can make sure a glider stays in the air for numerous hours covering hundreds of kilometres, even with an inexperienced pilot.
Being able to glide through the skies is a lifelong dream for many. Technique and passion is what gliding is all about.
If you're in the area, the Euro Space Center might as well be worth a visit. Book a holiday cottage with Ardennes-Etape to explore the Belgian Ardennes to the fullest and visit the National Gliding Centra and the Euro Space Center in Saint-Hubert.
