Defroidmont Chocolate Factory
At the end of a small road in Erezée, just next to the forest, you will find the Defroidmont Chocolate Factory, where the loveliest artisan Belgian chocolates are made. Why won’t you take a little detour and visit Philippe and Christiane Defroidmont’s workshop, making your holiday complete and to spoil yourself with the most delicious chocolate?
Fifty different types of chocolates, from very traditional to very original (with lavender, forest fruit, champagne), chocolate bars, figures, chocolate paste,… You will find all of this in the shop next to the chocolate factory. But that’s not all, the owners also offer local products based on chocolate, such as beer, tea, mustard…
These delicacies are available in the store, but also in the specialised bakeries in Belgium, France, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Owner Philippe started his career in Haccourt, in his parents’ bakery. He used to make chocolate from time to time and started doing this more and more. In 1984 he decided to make the art of chocolate production his full-time occupation. In 2000 he and his wife left the bank of the river Meuse and settled in Erezée, in the heart of the Ardennes.
In 2009 Philippe has expanded the chocolate company with a museum. Visitors learn about ancient and present production processes of chocolate, and company history. A video film shows the path of life of a cocoa bean. Everyone can see Mr Defroidmont live at work through the glass windows of his workshops.
Around the Chocolaterie Defroidmont you can take a walk along an educational path dedicated to the life of the honey bee. The informative panels tell you all about these important creatures and you can have a look at the beehives. Grazing sheep and chickens keep you company alongside the trail.
