Ardennes Offensive Museum
Over 120 models of American, English, German and even Scottish soldiers with their equipment and arms are on display in this museum of the Ardennes Offensive, better known as the Battle of the Bulge. Its 1,500 square metre surface is divided into three levels linked by a main staircase and an elevator for wheelchair accessibility.
The museum in La Roche-en-Ardenne shows an impressive collection of heavy and light weapons, photographs and other documentation, personal objects and equipment retrieved from the field of combat, and around twenty military vehicles. All this will show the visitor the seriousness and proportions of the Battle of the Bulge and the destruction of La Roche during the winter of 44-45.
The museum includes:
- a weapons room with around 90 rifles, pistols and revolvers as well as the famous Polish “Enigma” decoding machine;
- a “veterans” room containing donations made by veterans who fought in the Battle of the Ardennes;
- wall displays illustrating the course of events during the Battle of the Ardennes;
- a film about the liberation of La Roche in January 1945.
The La Roche-en-Ardenne area has a lot more to offer. The Wildlife Park is absolutely worth a visit. A stay in one of the Ardennes-Etape holiday homes is the ideal way to explore the region.
