Bouillon Castle

The Bouillon Castle looks out over the town and provides lots of information on feudal life. Its remains are very impressive and so is the panoramic view. Many activities, like medieval parties, falconry shows, take place on the site.

Bouillon Castle and Falconry Show

Between the river Meuse and the Semois, on both sides of the border between France and Belgium, the Sedan and Bouillon area show the charm and mystery of the Ardennes nature. All thanks to its high plateaus covered in thick forest, winding river valleys and superb views on legendary places.

The Bouillon castle:

  • Belgium's oldest feudal remains
  • The origin of the first buildings date back to the 8th century. Their existence is certified from 988.
  • The history of the castle is linked to Godfrey of Bouillon, leader of the first Crusade (1096) and defender of the Holy Sepulchre.
  • The castle was under military occupation up until 1830.

An educational falconry show with several different kinds of birds of prey is being held throughout the year and shows take place from the 1st of March until November 11th, during the weekends as well (except during winter) and during school vacations at 5 p.m. Guided visits (€45), booklet/guide (€1.50) or audio guide (€2.50).

Discover the Scriptura Exhibition, a permanent exhibition "from the quill to the pc" located in the room of the old arsenal covered with graffiti, focuses on the development of the teaching of writing throughout history, starting with the Middle Ages. The first part shows schools in the Middle Ages in 27 pictures. The next part shows the influence of printing, especially in Bouillon in the 18th century. A reconstruction of a class at the start of the 20th century precedes the computer era. The last part is dedicated to a temporary exhibition.

In Bouillon and everywhere else in the Ardennes, an Ardennes-Etape holiday home is waiting for you.
