The House of Metallurgy in Liege shows you the long Belgian history in this industry. The metal industry was by far the most important economic activity in Wallonia and the museum shows how our daily life is connected with it. A part of the museum is dedicated to the energy production and supply throughout the centuries.

Unveil all the secrets of the industrial regional patrimony on a surface of 2500m². Energy, metallurgy, great inventions in earlier times and today: you’ll discover it all.

The collections are built up around two major themes : materials (Walloon forge from the 17th century, Cockerill, steel industry,...) and energy (hydrolic, steamengines, engines on gaz, petrol and electricity).

I 4 rooms, you will experience 4 centuries of different technologies: the eldest from the country: blast furnace (1693), authentic makas, the oldest rolling mill in the world, the zinc bathtub of Napoléon, the dynamo prototype of Zénobe Gramme, a spectacular steam engine, the model of the engine of Marly, one of the rare ancestors of informatics.

This museum is situated in a former iron rolling mill factory that was founded in 1846 by D. Dothée. In 1862 it has been sold to « Espérance de Seraing » and it obtains the name Espérance-Longdoz after the neighbourhood in Liège. It’s glorious period takes place under this name. The museum’s buildings are the only remnants of the factory.
